About Kiswahili Tekelezi

Who We Are

KISWATE was founded in the year 2020 by Mr. Pius Odhiambo, a Data Scientist based in Washington DC, USA to promote the teaching and learning of functional Kiswahili in schools based in rural Kenya where Kiswahili has been neglected. The word KISWATE is derived from the Kiswahili words KISWAhili TEkelezi (KISWATE) which is loosely translated as functional(spoken) Kiswahili.

In October 4, 2020 during the second KISWATE conference members approved the adoption of schools by KISWATE in rural Kenya. The project was presented by KISWATE CEO Mr. John Yuya from Busia, Kenya and was ranked top by Dr. Hamisi Babusa from Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya. During the conference, Dr. Leonard Muaka from Howard University in Washington DC, USA made a presentation on the importance of Kiswahili and its role during Pan African movement.
